“Aqlam Arabiya” Magazine Publishes Its 100th Commemorative Issue

In its commemorative 100th issue, Aqlam Arabiya magazine continues to affirm its cultural and literary presence—originating in Yemen and reaching across the Arab world and beyond—celebrating a nine-year journey of resilience through difficult circumstances, proving that free expression and genuine creativity can indeed endure.

Among the standout features in this special edition is a dedicated file titled “Years of Aqlam,” in which Samar Al-Ramimah writes about the magazine’s journey since its inception and its role in opening doors for both emerging and seasoned writers, emphasizing its cultural and creative direction away from political or sectarian alignments.

Notable Features in the Issue:

  • Interview with Ali Al-Asadi:
A conversation with the Yemeni writer and artist Ali Al-Asadi, hosted by the magazine, exploring his multifaceted creative experience.

  • A Special File on Writer Riyadh Hammadi:
Titled “The Journey of a Multitalented Soul,” this section traces the path of a writer whose work spans poetry, criticism, and philosophical inquiry.

  • Special Feature on “Siraj” – A Yemeni Children’s Media Project:
Celebrating Siraj as a pioneering media initiative that gives voice to Yemeni children as narrators, not just listeners—a culturally inspired project led by prominent Yemeni women.

  • Report on the Erbil International Theater Festival:
With wide Arab and international participation, the magazine affirms its presence in the regional cultural scene by providing live coverage of this artistic event.

The issue also includes articles such as “The Sound Engineering of the Poem ‘Danger’,” “The Sacrifice and the Silence,” and “A Song for My Mother,” in addition to recent critical publications by leading researchers, including Dr. Ibrahim Abu Talib.
Khalid Al-Dhubaybi offers a comparative biographical reflection on the poet Mukhtar Muharram and the iconic singer Abdel Halim Hafez, illustrating how poetry can be an extension of melody.

Featured Theme: Dreams in Cinema

One of the main highlights of this issue is the article “Dreams in Cinema: The Gate to the Subconscious Mind” by Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, exploring the profound link between dreams and cinematic action. The article examines how dreams have become a tool of expression in both Eastern and Western cinema, shedding light on the philosophical dimension that makes dreams a driving force in visual storytelling. It also highlights global and Egyptian cinematic experiences, with a special mention of Egyptian filmmaker Mazen Lotfy.

This centennial issue is not just a moment of reflection but a celebration of the enduring cultural dream in times of war and turmoil.
Aqlam Arabiya asserts once again that it is more than a publication—it is a civilizational project that brings literature, art, and critique together, making creativity a boundless space for every free pen.
