The Days of the World Peoples Assembly in the Tunisian Republic opened with a landmark meeting between the delegation of the World Peoples Assembly and representatives of the World Organization of Writers (WOW) on April 24, 2026, at the headquarters of the Tunisian Writers’ Union.
Among the participants of the meeting were:
Margarita Al – President of the World Organization of Writers, Chair of the Literary Council of the World Peoples Assembly;
Ely Borgel – Chairman of the Tunisian Writers’ Union;
Yanina Dubeikovskaya – Deputy Director of the World Peoples Assembly; as well as many other representatives of participating organizations.
In an atmosphere of mutual respect and belief in the power of culture and the written word, the participants exchanged views on the development of writers’ organizations, expressing interest in expanding cooperation and integrating creative communities across countries.
Margarita Al spoke about the activities and goals of WOW, emphasizing the importance of developing cultural ties. She also highlighted that in 2026 the Decade of the Languages of the Peoples of the World (2026–2035) was launched, within which the current year has been declared the Year of the Russian Language, and 2027 the Year of the Arabic Language.
Ely Borgel spoke about the history of the Tunisian Writers’ Union, its achievements and future plans, as well as the challenges it faces and its aspiration for active international cooperation. The Union brings together representatives from all regions of the Republic of Tunisia.
Yanina Dubeikovskaya presented the upcoming World Public Summit: Africa, to be held on July 30, 2026, in Ethiopia, and invited the leaders of the creative union to participate.
During the meeting, participants recited poetry and exchanged books and literary magazines.
The meeting became the first event within the rich program of the Days of the World Peoples Assembly in Tunisia. Upcoming events include meetings with organizations working in education and culture, representatives of the business sector and community leaders, as well as the awarding of winners of the national stage of the “Leader of Public Diplomacy” competition.
