The world once again stands on the brink of collapse due to the recklessness of the dominant powers and the greed of commercial States that care neither for the fate of humanity nor for international law. Injustice has reached its peak in this system.
The entire history of humanity is summed up today in the image of that child being bombed, carrying a bowl to get food for his siblings and family, in front of the aid workers. What is happening to the Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and all the occupied territories in front of the world’s screens, is happening in other forms in other regions of Africa, Asia, and America that the cameras do not reach. These are the faces that roam the streets of cities in search of a decent life after greedy capitalists and widespread corruption have destroyed their homelands. The human issue is indivisible, and the issue of freedom encompasses the entire world.
Only poetry can express human issues everywhere. That is the voice of the World Poetry Movement.
Let’s agree that poetry cannot stop a shell, feed a hungry person, or protect a refugee, but it can awaken the spirit of the human being they are trying to kill in this universe. The voice of poetry cannot rise above the noise of cannons, planes, missiles, and sirens, but the voice of poetry can be the voice of truth and justice and reach the depths of humanity.
That is the voice of the World Poetry Movement, which, at its first conference in July 2023, adopted the principles governing its global work program: defending human freedom and dignity, respecting diversity and difference, adhering to justice, rejecting hegemony and coercion, peace and coexistence, protecting the universe, and ensuring a conducive environment for creativity in the world.
Peace is the right that allows peoples to flourish and adhere to human values. Poetry is the choice by wich peoples can live in safety with the rights of all guaranteed. That is the voice of the World Poetry Movement.
The peoples of the world have the certainty to continue defending the human spirit and pursue the dream of living in peace, respecting diversity and difference, in a healthy environment and guaranteeing a decent life for humanity. Poetry carries this dream, and that is the voice of the World Poetry Movement.
The World Poetry Movement calls upon poets, writers, thinkers, journalists, and all creative individuals worldwide to be the voice of truth, justice, and freedom in the world, expressing the human spirit in all ages.
It calls for an international poetic action in which poetry is the voice of humanity in a world open to all, free from coercion, oppression, fraud.
The voice of poetry is the voice of life on this earth, yesterday, today, tomorrow, and for all time.
