Gambian among over 1,000 writers in Moscow for Global Literary Forum

The Point– The World Organization of Writers (WOW) Congress is set for 21 September 2025 in Moscow, Russia, gathering distinguished voices from the global literary community. With representation from 63 countries and over 1,000 delegates in attendance, the event will be structured into eight round table sessions exploring themes such as writers’ solidarity, the art of translation, the revival of literary criticism, literature in universities, support for young authors, international book festivals, and the promotion of humanistic cinema. Delegates will work toward adopting a WOW Memorandum, a yearly plan of action, and a Unified Humanistic Manifesto echoing the spirit of From Word to Action.

The Writers’ Association of The Gambia (WAG) will take part in these deliberations, represented by its President, Prof. Cherno Omar Barry. Prof. Barry will present a paper on literature’s role in education and human development, emphasising Africa’s digital future and the potential of AI-enhanced teaching. At the sidelines of the congress, WAG will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding with WOW, a milestone that secures The Gambia’s place in a global partnership dedicated to literature, humanism, and cultural exchange.
