By Siraj Khan

Nepalgunj, Dec. 7: Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal has said that the interim government formed to control corruption and maintain good governance is working day and night to improve the country’s economic situation.

Speaking at an interaction organised by the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Nepalgunj on Sunday, Minister Khanal said that the government, formed for a specific purpose and time, would carry out major economic reforms within a short period.

He said that the Ministry of Finance is implementing various reforms to strengthen the national economy, which will make it easier and more efficient to operate industries and businesses.

Minister Khanal said, “This government, which was formed under specific circumstances, has a clear mandate. We are working tirelessly, as the government must accomplish several economic reform tasks within a limited time.”

He said that the government was working with the same mandate and objective as the Gen-Z movement — to control corruption and establish good governance.

Stating that many major policy decisions cannot be made in the absence of a parliament, Minister Khanal added that necessary improvements are being made in existing policies and systems to strengthen the country’s economy.

He said that various technology-friendly measures have been introduced to make tax collection transparent and timely, and to facilitate industry, trade, and import–export processes.

On the occasion, Abdul Wahid Mansuri, central member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry; Tanka Dhami, President of the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Krishna Prasad Shrestha, former president of the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Tanka Prasad Sharma, President of the Nepal Herbal Entrepreneurs’ Association; Chiranjeevi Oli, Senior Vice President of the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and others apprised the minister of various challenges facing industrialists and entrepreneurs.

They raised issues including stricter border control, construction of a dry port, expediting the Naubasta Industrial Zone, launching Nepalgunj–Delhi air service, and easing the export of herbs.
