As part of Russia’s annual cultural initiative “Biblionight,” a nationwide educational event celebrating literature and libraries, a unique and vibrant program has brought Africa to the heart of Russia. This year, Russian writer and artist Inna Nacharova hosted a remarkable “Biblionight” experience in the city of Ufa, transforming one of its libraries into a cross-cultural artistic space.

The highlight of the evening was the opening of the exhibition “African Women,” an extraordinary collection of handmade dolls representing African women. These works were created by skilled craftswomen from various cities across Russia, reflecting a deep appreciation for African culture and artistry.
Within the framework of the exhibition, Nacharova presented her new book, “Silver Safari,” a detective story set on the African continent. The narrative draws inspiration from the history of the renowned jewelry house founded by Patrick Mavros. Notably, Nacharova personally created the book’s illustrations, adding a distinct artistic dimension to the publication.

The event also featured a dynamic performance showcasing Nacharova’s original jewelry collection “Ibel.” This collection is inspired by a play written by Nigerian author Esther Adelana. Nacharova recently translated Adelana’s work into Russian, introducing it to a new audience. The play itself is a powerful and authentic exploration of gender inequality issues on the African continent.
Nacharova expressed her gratitude to the library staff for their creative support and for organizing a memorable artistic performance that brought together literature, visual arts, and cultural dialogue.
This event stands as a vivid example of the meaningful connections that can be built between peoples, cultures, continents, and creative expression.
