World Poetry Movement Calls Poets and Peoples to Unite for Global Peace in November

September 6, 2026

The Coordinating Committee of the World Poetry Movement has issued a powerful declaration addressed to the peoples of the world, calling for a new and forceful global action for peace during the month of November.

In its declaration, the Movement warns that the present moment in history represents far more than a simple crossroads. It describes a world confronted by the expansion of war, imperial ambition, threats to national sovereignty, and the devastating consequences of violence against peoples and cultures.

The statement expresses deep concern over the continuing suffering of the Palestinian people, the expansion of military conflict and threats in different regions, aggression and pressure against nations including Iran and Venezuela, threats affecting Cuba and the peoples of Latin America, repression against migrants, and the resurgence of forces that threaten cultural identity and the dreams of peoples.

In response, the World Poetry Movement calls upon humanity to resist through love, imagination, creativity, and the written and spoken word.

“Resistance is not an option,” the declaration states. “It is the only dignified human response to the enemies of life.”

The Movement emphasizes that poets, writers, artists, and cultural workers have a special responsibility in the present historical moment. Resistance, it says, must arise from every territory of culture, raising voices where indifference has prevailed and ensuring that human suffering and injustice do not remain invisible.

According to the declaration, poetry possesses a unique role in building what the Movement describes as a planetary consciousness—one capable of inspiring a peace stronger and more active than the forces of war.

The World Poetry Movement calls for the construction of a new global network based on mutual solidarity among peoples, cultures, writers, and creative communities.

“True history is not written by cannons,” the declaration affirms. “It is written by the dream of poetic justice arising from the human heart.”

The Coordinating Committee believes that the triumph of life, peace, and poetry should not be regarded as an impossible dream. Rather, it argues, such a future can emerge through the unity, imagination, and mobilizing energy of peoples around the world.

As a result, the World Poetry Movement is calling on poets, cultural institutions, writers, artists, and communities across continents to prepare for a new and powerful collective action for global peace throughout November 2026.

The forthcoming initiative is expected to bring together voices from different cultures and languages around a common conviction: that creativity must stand against destruction, solidarity against indifference, and life against war.

The declaration concludes with a call to poets and to the peoples of the world to transform poetry into a living force for dialogue, justice, memory, and peace.

For the World Poetry Movement, the coming action represents more than a cultural event. It is a call for the creative conscience of humanity to rise at a time when the world urgently needs new forms of solidarity and a renewed belief in the possibility of a shared human future.
