Cairo University Welcomes Delegations from KEDA and Cheongju University
KEDA Chairman Also Welcomed by the Korean Ambassador to Cairo

Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadiq, President of Cairo University, welcomed Dr. Kang Wong Sik, Chairman of the Korean Egyptian Development Association (KEDA), and his accompanying delegation from Cheongju University in Korea at Ahmed Lotfy El-Sayed Hall. The meeting aimed to explore ways to enhance cooperation in various academic and research fields, as well as to facilitate faculty and student exchange programs between the two universities.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the two universities to expand their partnership, particularly in research projects related to aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence applications, and urban development.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Hossam Abdel-Fattah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Dr. Ayman Qassem, Head of the Department of Aerospace Engineering; Dr. Mohamed Lotfy; Dr. Osama Al-Mohammadi; and Dr. Heidi Bayoumi, Director of the International Cooperation Office at Cairo University. On the Korean side, the event was attended by Dr. Siu Ho Yang, Vice President of Cheongju University, along with members of the university’s faculty and representatives from several private Korean companies.
In his speech during the meeting, Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel-Sadiq praised Egyptian-Korean relations, highlighting their tangible progress across multiple sectors. He emphasized that Egyptian-Korean ties serve as a unique model for impactful partnerships, with pioneering projects aligning with national sustainable development goals. He also noted that collaboration with Cheongju University opens up new opportunities to benefit from advanced expertise and cutting-edge technology, especially in the fields of aerospace engineering, artificial intelligence, and urban development.
For his part, Dr. Kang Wong Sik expressed his delight at being at Cairo University to strengthen academic ties between the institution and Cheongju University. He emphasized that the Korean Egyptian Development Association (KEDA) aims to promote economic and developmental cooperation between Egypt and South Korea, and that Cairo University, as a prestigious educational and research institution, was chosen to enhance this collaboration.
Dr. Hossam Abdel-Fattah, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, highlighted the distinguished history of the Aerospace Engineering Department, which was established over 85 years ago. He pointed out that it is the only civilian aerospace engineering department in Egypt, boasting an elite faculty and serving as a leading department in Egypt and the Middle East. The department provides an integrated educational and research environment and produces highly qualified engineers for the aviation industry.
Dr. Ayman Qassem, Head of the Aerospace Engineering Department, explained that the department is involved in several major projects, including civil protection, archaeological exploration, and the use of artificial intelligence to identify locations instead of relying on satellite imagery. He also noted the department’s work in land vehicle development and pointed out the similarities between the research activities at Cairo University’s Aerospace Engineering Department and those at Cheongju University.
At the end of the meeting, both sides exchanged commemorative shields and gifts and took group photos.
During his visit, Dr. Kang received an invitation from H.E. Mr. Kim, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cairo, during which he and the accompanying delegation discussed ways to strengthen relations between Egypt and Korea, as the two countries approach the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties.
