A Human for Sale

By Nagla Ali Hassan
(The Blue Butterfly🦋)
Who will buy my soul,
And sell me the dream of a homeland?
My homeland was fixed,
In the atlas of geography,
And in the history books..
Politicians sold it for a golden deal
And planted a dagger in the backs of the Arabs
For seventy years or more,
The scoundrels devour it piece by piece
Growing more greedy
Never feeling full,
No amount of blood is enough to quench their thirst
But with our blood we will irrigate
The map of the homeland
And the olive trees
To live forever,
In a homeland
No longer fit
To bury our bodies
And those trees no longer
Beg the muddy clouds
For a fire to shroud their shadow
Since the homeland became
Our cemetery with everyone’s blessing.
