Kirsty Elson World

Over the last twenty years, I’ve been scouring the local beaches for washed up ‘treasure’ to work with.

Kirsty studied illustration and printmaking at Cambridge School of Art, but it was only 10 years after graduating that she started out as a designer/maker.

She spends as much time at the beach as she can scouring local beaches in Cornwall for driftwood which is often in plentiful supply.  It is a great medium to work with as every piece is unique and she is very much inspired by individual pieces: the shapes, colours and textures are the starting point and they suggest ideas to her. Usually these are coastal scenes: cottages, lighthouses and harbours, but she also loves to make quirky animals and sea creatures. It all depends on the materials she finds!

She also uses more and more found objects, including old nails and rusty bits of metal, to add quirky details

Kirsty’s work is in huge demand in the UK and internationally

WELCOME

“Hello! I’m Kirsty Elson and I’m a driftwood artist living in Cornwall, UK.
Over the last twenty years, I’ve been scouring the local beaches for washed up ‘treasure’ to work with.

For a long time, I focused on making cottages, boats, lighthouses and coastal scenes. More recently my work has changed direction and I’m having a wonderful time making quirky animals and birds.
I hope my work makes you smile! “
