EN DEFENSA DE GAZA HASTA
LA PRIMAVERA HUMANA
Nguyen Quang Thieu Nacido en la Provincia de Ha Tay en 1957, Quang Thieu ahora vive en Hanoi, donde es Presidente de la Asociación de Escritores de Vietnam y editor en jefe del magazín literario Van Nghe Tre. Autor de muchos libros de poesía, cuatro novelas, y dos colecciones de historias cortas, Nguyen Quang Thieu es considerado por muchos como el poeta más prominente de Vietnam del Norte, emergido desde la guerra contra Estados Unidos, que terminó cuando él estaba en el bachillerato. Su libro Insomnia of Fire (1992) -Insomnio de Fuego- ganó el Premio de la Asociación Nacional de Escritores para poesía, uno de los más prestigiosos premios literarios de Vietnam.
Ya sea evocando la aldea de su infancia o explorando las complejidades urbanas o rurales de su vida adulta, Thieu enraíza sus poemas en una tradición vietnamita que reverencia el entorno. Su respeto por el paso del tiempo transmitido a todo lo largo de la colección de poemas es tradicional, pero él se mueve fluidamente a través de paisajes del pasado, presente, y futuro con distintas metáforas y yuxtaposiciones contemporáneas. Mientras pocos de los poemas mencionan la guerra directamente, sus efectos son a la vez sentidos y trascendidos en estas hermosas piezas algunas veces tristes pero siempre atrayentes.
Acerca de su poesía, Ngo Nhu Binh, quien trabaja en la Universidad de Harvard, dice que es ‘…es necesaria para aquellos que están interesados en aprender más acerca de la cultura, literatura y poesía vietnamita contemporáneas.

Nguyen Quang Thieu Born in Ha Tay Province in 1957, Quang Thieu now lives in Hanoi, where he is President of the Vietnam Writers Association and editor-in-chief of the Van Nghe Tre literary magazine. The author of many books of poetry, four novels, and two collections of short stories, Nguyen Quang Thieu is considered by many to be the most prominent North Vietnamese poet to emerge since the war against the United States, which ended when he was in high school. His book Insomnia of Fire (1992) – Insomnia of Fire – won the National Writers Association Award for Poetry, one of the most prestigious literary awards in Vietnam.
Whether evoking the village of his childhood or exploring the urban or rural complexities of his adult life, Thieu roots his poems in a Vietnamese tradition that reveres the environment. His respect for the passage of time transmitted throughout the collection of poems is traditional, but he moves fluidly through landscapes of the past, present, and future with different metaphors and contemporary juxtapositions. While few of the poems mention the war directly, its effects are both felt and transcended in these beautiful pieces sometimes sad but always attractive.
About his poetry, Ngo Nhu Binh, who works at Harvard University, says that it is ‘…necessary for those who are interested in learning more about contemporary Vietnamese culture, literature and poetry.
