Iconic Poets Stand in Solidarity with Cuba Against U.S. Measures

Lima, February 3, 2026 – A group of renowned poets and intellectuals has issued a powerful statement denouncing the recent measures imposed by the administration of Donald Trump against Cuba. The statement, signed by figures including Héctor Béjar Rivera, Hildebrando Pérez Grande, Vicente Otta Rivera, Gustavo Espinoza, Marco Martos Carrera, and others, strongly condemns the labeling of Cuba as an “extraordinary threat” to U.S. national security.

The statement describes these measures as criminal, genocidal, and fascist, highlighting that they aim to disrupt Cuba’s petroleum trade, tourism industry, daily life of citizens, and broader social and cultural development. President Miguel Díaz-Canel, the signatories note, has courageously affirmed that such policies attempt to suffocate the undeniable social achievements of the Cuban Revolution.

Issued on the centenary of Fidel Castro’s birth and the 100th anniversary of the magazine Amauta, founded by José Carlos Mariátegui, the statement from the Peruvian chapter of REDH emphasizes international solidarity with Cuba.

“Cuba is not alone. Let us amplify our solidarity and limitless support for Cuba!” the statement declares.
