Calicut, Kerala — 28 September 2026:
Farook College (Autonomous), Calicut, in association with the PG & Research Department of Arabic and Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College, Calicut, will host a major academic symposium on the “Arabic Legacy of Farookabad” on Monday, 28 September 2026, at Parison Hall, Farook College.
The programme will also feature the formal release of a new book documenting the intellectual journey and contributions of the distinguished scholar and writer Professor Muhammad Kuttassery, under the title Al-Ustadh Muhammad Kuttassery: Rihlat Ilm wa Ata’ (Professor Muhammad Kuttassery: A Journey of Knowledge and Giving), authored by Dr. Yoosuf Muhammed Nadwi.
The event will bring together scholars, academics, writers, educational leaders and representatives of Farook College and Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College to reflect on the historical development of Arabic scholarship in Farookabad and the enduring contribution of its scholars and institutions.
Symposium on the Arabic Legacy of Farookabad
The symposium will open at 10:00 a.m., with Dr. Shahad Bin Ali, Principal of Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College, delivering the Qur’anic recitation, introduction and chairing the opening session.
Prof. (Dr.) K. A. Aysha Swapna, Principal of Farook College, will deliver the special address, followed by the inauguration of the symposium by P. M. A. Sameer, MLA.
The theme of the symposium will be presented by Dr. Hussain Madavoor, former Principal of Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College. The academic presentations will include contributions from Dr. Jamaludeen Farooqi K, former Principal of WMO College, Muttil; Prof. K. Thamza, former Head of the PG & Research Department of Arabic, Farook College; Dr. Ali Noufal K, Head of the Department of Arabic, University of Calicut; and M. M. Aboobacker Farooqi, former faculty member of FHSS, Farook College.
The symposium will examine the rich Arabic intellectual heritage associated with Farookabad and its role in the development of Arabic education, scholarship, literature and cultural exchange in Kerala.
Book release: Al-Ustadh Muhammad Kuttassery
The second part of the programme, scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will be devoted to the release of Al-Ustadh Muhammad Kuttassery: Rihlat Ilm wa Ata’, a biographical and intellectual study by Dr. Yoosuf Muhammed Nadwi.
The session will welcome Dr. Muhammed Abid U. P., Head of the PG & Research Department of Arabic at Farook College, and will be chaired by Prof. (Dr.) K. A. Aysha Swapna, Principal of Farook College.
The author, Dr. Yoosuf Muhammed Nadwi, will introduce the book and discuss its significance in documenting the life, scholarship and service of Professor Muhammad Kuttassery.
The Publisher’s Note will be delivered by Dr. Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, Editor-in-Chief of the Silk Road Literature Series, representing Dar al-Nashir, Egypt, reviewing the book as he wrote its introduction. The book will be formally released by Sayyid Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal, with P. K. Ahamed, President of the Farook College Managing Committee, receiving the first copy.
Honouring a legacy of scholarship
The ceremony will also include the presentation of commemorative mementoes and a series of congratulatory addresses by prominent academics, scholars and educational figures associated with Farook College, Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College and the University of Calicut.
Among those scheduled to address the gathering are Adv. M. Mohamad, Manager of the Farook College Managing Committee; Prof. N. V. Abdurahman, former Syndicate Member of the University of Calicut; Prof. A. Kuttialikutty, former Principal of Farook College and Secretary of Rouzathul Uloom; P. O. Hashim, President of the Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College Managing Committee; Prof. E. P. Imbichikoya, Manager of Farook Training Colleges and former Principal of Farook College; and Prof. P. Muhammed Kuttassery, eminent scholar and writer.
Other speakers include Prof. (Dr.) T. Mohamed Saleem, Principal of Farook Training College and Syndicate Member of the University of Calicut; Lt. (Dr.) A. Abdul Jabbar, Syndicate Member of the University of Calicut; writer and Islamic scholar Shaikh Muhammad Karakunnu; Dr. K. V. Veeran Moidheen, retired Professor of Arabic at the University of Calicut; Dr. Musthafa Farooqi, former Principal of Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College; Dr. Yunos Salim, Professor at the PG & Research Department of Arabic, Farook College; Dr. Maimoonath A. P., Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Islamic History at Farook College; Dr. Aboobacker K, Head of the Department of Arabic at Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College; K. K. Ali Kutty Master, former faculty member of FHSS, Farook College; and Dr. Ayman Shouqi P, retired Associate Professor of Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College.
The programme will conclude with a vote of thanks by Dr. Jamseer P. K., Associate Professor of the Department of Arabic, Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College.
Connecting Kerala’s Arabic heritage with the wider world
The symposium and book release together underline the continuing importance of Arabic scholarship in Kerala and the role of institutions such as Farook College and Rouzathul Uloom Arabic College in preserving and developing this intellectual tradition.
The publication of Al-Ustadh Muhammad Kuttassery: Rihlat Ilm wa Ata’ also provides an opportunity to revisit the life of a scholar whose work represents the close relationship between education, Arabic scholarship and social service.
For Dar al-Nashir, Egypt, the publication carries a further significance: it creates a bridge between Kerala’s long Arabic intellectual tradition and the broader Arab publishing and cultural sphere.
The programme at Farook College thus brings together two dimensions of the same heritage—the history of Arabic scholarship in Farookabad and the life of one of its distinguished representatives—in a gathering devoted to knowledge, memory and intellectual continuity.
