Brunei Darussalam is set to host a special literary event, Baca Bahana, under the theme “The Beauty of Ramadan” on Monday, 23 Ramadan 1446 (24 March 2025). Organized in celebration of World Poetry Day, this event will bring together 18 poets and literary figures from various countries, highlighting the spirit of Ramadan through poetry and reflection.
The program will commence at 9:30 AM (GMT+8) and will be accessible via Zoom and a live stream on the official Facebook page of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka Brunei. The Zoom link will open at 9:00 AM to allow participants and attendees to join.
The event will begin with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and prayers for the Sultan and the nation of Brunei Darussalam, followed by opening remarks by Yang Mulia Awang Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Acting Director of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Brunei. A book review session will also take place, featuring Yang Mulia Dayang Zakiyah binti Abdullah, Assistant Editor at Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Brunei.
A diverse lineup of poets and literary figures from Brunei, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and India will participate in the Baca Bahana poetry reading session. Among the notable participants are Badaruddin H.O., MZM, Idlan Adley, nurFik Brunei, Ibrahim AHT, Dr. Perwaiz Shaharyar (India), Ashraf Aboul-Yazid (Egypt), Jasni Matlani (Malaysia), Farihan Borhan (Singapore), Prof. Dr. Yulianeta (Indonesia), and several others.
Attendees are kindly requested to mute their microphones during the Zoom session to ensure a smooth experience, except for the scheduled speakers and performers.
This literary event is a unique opportunity to appreciate the intersection of Ramadan’s spiritual essence and the beauty of poetry, fostering cross-cultural literary exchange while celebrating the significance of World Poetry Day.
