Crossing into Poetry: Multilingual Voices and Translation in Focus

As part of the 2025 Kaohsiung Literature Month, a special event titled “Crossing into Poetry: A Conversation on Translation” (part of the “Embodied Language Series”) will be held on Sunday, July 27, from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Kaohsiung Literature Museum, 1st Floor Literary Salon.

This enriching literary evening will bring together acclaimed writers and translators to explore the boundaries and bridges created through poetry and cross-language expression.

Featured Guests:

  • Lee Wang-Tai  
    A lifelong writer whose career began with journalism before moving into political commentary and fiction. Lee has published six novels and received numerous awards. Despite age and health, his creative drive remains strong.
  • ·Miao-yi Tu
    A distinguished translator and poet, Tu has published five books including poetry collections and short fiction. She is a prominent figure in Southeast Asian literary circles and has translated works from Western and Southeast Asian languages into Chinese. Tu is also known for promoting international literature through translation and public speaking.
  • Cheng Yu-Hsin
    A free-spirited translator, novelist, and playwright, Cheng is recognized for his work in speculative fiction and is known for blending fantasy with sharp literary craft. A firm believer in writing and eating as life essentials, he brings humor and intellect to every page.

Moderator:

  • Tsai Ming-Hsuan  
    With over 24 years of editorial experience in Chinese-language publishing, Tsai has worked extensively in literary editing, children’s books, and translation. She has held senior positions in publishing and currently works independently as an editor and consultant.

This event will shed light on how poetry transcends borders through the act of translation, revealing the emotional and cultural nuances carried across languages.
