Adonis (Ali Ahmad Said Esber), nació en Al Qassabin, Siria, el 1 de enero de 1930. Es un destacado poeta, pionero de la poesía árabe moderna, ensayista y profesor universitario. Ha sido candidatizado en varias ocasiones al Premio Nobel de Literatura.

Entre los múltiples reconocimientos obtenidos por su obra, destacamos: Premio de la revista Shi’r, 1961; Premio Nacional de Poesía, Beirut, 1974; Premio Nâzım Hikmet, 1994; Corona de Oro de Struga, 1997; Premio de Poesía Nonino 1999; Premio Alain Bosquet, 2000; Premio Bjornson, 2007; Premio Max Jacob, 2008, y Premio Goethe, 2011.

Adonis (Ali Ahmad Said Esber) was born in Al Qassabin, Syria, on January 1, 1930. He is a prominent poet, pioneer of modern Arabic poetry, essayist, and university professor. He has been nominated several times for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Among the many awards her work has received are: the Shi’r Magazine Prize, 1961; the National Poetry Prize, Beirut, 1974; the Nâzım Hikmet Prize, 1994; the Struga Golden Crown, 1997; the Nonino Poetry Prize, 1999; the Alain Bosquet Prize, 2000; the Bjornson Prize, 2007; the Max Jacob Prize, 2008; and the Goethe Prize, 2011.
