Tufan – Omar Bdoor’s Illustrative Tribute to Palestine

The visual artist and illustrator Omar Bdoor has officially released his new book entitled Tufan, published by Yafa Scientific Publishing and Distribution. The book was presented to the public on August 17, 2025, at the National Library.

 

Tufan brings together 485 works of visual art, ranging from paintings to caricatures, created day by day as a direct reflection of the unfolding events in Palestine, with a particular focus on Gaza. The collection documents not only moments of destruction and loss but also resilience and hope.

 

In addition to the visual works, the book features poems, short prose, and essays contributed by writers from Jordan, Lebanon, Serbia, Iraq, Yemen, and Palestine. Among the contributors are the Lebanese poet and translator Taghrid BouMerhi, Serbian author Ana Stjelja and Bosniak-French author Jasna Šamić, and several prominent Arab poets and writers like Islam Alqam, Khaled Al-Subti, Abu Hliwa, Merjem Al-Amuri, Abdulrahim Al-Džedaje, Shafiq Al-Atawneh, Ali Al-Fa‘uri, Muhamed Ali Al-Farajeh, Ahmed Al-Zoul, Salah Abu Lawi, Muhamed Nasif, Ahmed Abu Aslim, Israa Al-Ja‘abis, Amal Al-Faqih, Muhamed Khudair, Samer Al-Ma‘ani, Jarwan Al-Ma‘ani, Samir Atiyya, Iman Ziyada, Wael Abdulrabah i Ali Saade.

 

The book takes readers on a journey through paintings and poetry, telling the story of a resilient people. Each page illustrates suffering in its many dimensions, but also radiates hope and determination. The book offers a vivid picture of Gaza—a city that courageously resists injustice and oppression, while its people uphold the slogan of resistance against the machinery of tyranny.

 

The English edition of the book was translated by Taghrid BouMerhi, ensuring that the messages carried through both the paintings and the poetry reach a wider international audience.

The book opens with an introduction that frames Tufan as more than just an artistic project—it is a testimony to the suffering of the Palestinian people and a call for freedom, dignity, and justice. Through a combination of words and images, the book reflects the pain, endurance, and humanity of Gaza’s people.

Speaking about the work, Omar Bdoor emphasized that Tufan is intended as a tribute to Palestine, stating that “every illustration is a cry from the heart of the Palestinian people, and every poem a melody of their determination to endure.”
