Kazakh poet Ulugbek Yesdaulet announced that he is flying today to attend the Silk Road Poetry Festival in Xi’an, China, departing via Nanjing Airport. The festival, a renowned international gathering celebrating poetic voices along the historic Silk Road, will feature a rich cultural and literary exchange among poets from around the world.
Ulugbek Yesdaulet shared that his session, called the Jyr Party, is scheduled to take place this evening and will be moderated by the Chinese poet Sao Shui, who will also serve as translator. During the event, Ulugbek will read 15 of his poems in Kazakh and engage with the audience in a discussion. The poet noted with appreciation that his works will also be translated into English, while another poet will present them in the Hanzu (Chinese) language.

Reflecting humorously on the intensive literary experience, Ulugbek remarked that listening to 15 poems three times in one evening—45 poems in total—might be quite a journey for the audience!
Adding to the festival’s significance, it has been announced that one of the most honored guests will receive the Golden Medal “Hakim Abai”, an award representing Kazakhstan’s tribute to poetic excellence and cross-cultural dialogue.
Ulugbek Yesdaulet also recalled that his poetry had previously participated—though not in person—at the Wang Wei Poetry Festival, traditionally held in Xi’an, where it earned a prize. He recently received the official certificate for that award during his visit to Sakha-Yakutia.
The poet’s participation this year marks a continued bridge of friendship and creativity between Kazakhstan and China along the timeless routes of the Silk Road.
