Mongolia Celebrates 120 Years of Dashiadorjiin Natsagdorj

“The World United Association of Mongolian Peoples “Heritage of Nomadic Culture” has announced an ambitious five-day international program to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the birth of Mongolia’s national literary icon, Dashiadorjiin Natsagdorj (1906–2026).”

Bringing together poets, writers, scholars, cultural leaders, and international delegates, the celebrations will take place from August 16 to 20, 2026, across some of Mongolia’s most historically and culturally significant locations.

The program will begin in Ulaanbaatar with the registration of participants in the International Poetry Festival “Rodina” (“Eh Nutag”), followed by cultural performances, documentary filming, and visits to major landmarks. Participants will then travel to Bayandalger, the birthplace of D. Natsagdorj, where floral tributes, meetings with readers, and commemorative events will honor the writer’s enduring legacy.

The celebrations will continue in Baganuur with visits to the Dashiadorjiin Natsagdorj’s  Park of Writers of the Mongolian Peoples of the World, the writer’s library, and the site of his family home, culminating in the International Poetry Festival and an official reception.

The journey will further explore Mongolia’s spiritual and historical heritage through visits to the sacred Burkhan Khaldun Mountain memorial complex, Khokhnur (Blue Lake), and significant historical monuments in Khentii Province. Cultural exchanges, documentary filming, traditional concerts, a bonfire festival, horse racing, Mongolian wrestling, and displays of national costumes will highlight the rich traditions celebrated in Natsagdorj’s writings.

A special visit to a border military unit and the viewing of Mongolia’s renowned state-owned brown horses will add a unique dimension to the program. The festivities will conclude with the grand final show, “We Are Together,” symbolizing friendship, cultural dialogue, and the unifying power of literature.

As part of the anniversary celebrations and the outcomes of the International Poetry Festival “My Homeland” (“Eh Nutag”), Mongolia is also preparing a special multilingual literary anthology titled My Homeland. The collection will bring together selected poems by participating writers and poets from around the world, accompanied by their photographs and biographical notes. Conceived as a lasting cultural document of the festival, the anthology will celebrate the diversity of literary voices united by themes of homeland, identity, memory, and human connection. By preserving the creative contributions of the festival’s participants, the publication will serve as both a tribute to D. Natsagdorj’s literary legacy and a testament to the enduring role of poetry in fostering international friendship and intercultural dialogue.

More than a literary commemoration, the anniversary celebrations promise to become an international tribute to Mongolia’s cultural heritage and to the timeless legacy of D. Natsagdorj, whose works continue to inspire generations across borders and languages.
