The Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco Launches the “Essentials of African and Diasporic Literatures” Series with an International Inaugural Seminar

Rabat – The Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco is set to launch the first event in its new series, “The Essentials of African and Diasporic Literatures,” through an international inaugural seminar to be held on June 12, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Rabat time) at the Academy’s headquarters, with online participation available via Zoom for researchers, scholars, and literature enthusiasts from around the world.

This initiative reflects the Academy’s commitment to fostering cultural and intellectual dialogue on African literatures and their expressions both within the continent and across the global African diaspora. It also seeks to highlight the contributions of writers and creators from diasporic communities to the enrichment of world literature. The seminar will open with an official address by the Permanent Secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, while the session will be presented and moderated by the Chairholder of African Literatures and Arts at the Academy.

The gathering is expected to mark the beginning of a broader series of specialized seminars and lectures designed to provide in-depth perspectives on both classical and contemporary African literatures, while building bridges among scholars, writers, critics, and readers interested in this rapidly expanding field of study.

In parallel with these academic activities, the Academy has invited the public to explore its audiovisual productions through its YouTube channel, particularly the series “The Academic Moment.” Presented in the form of short audiovisual capsules, the series features interviews, testimonies, and intellectual portraits that showcase the work of the Academy’s various academic chairs and institutions, including the Chair of Comparative Literature, the Andalus Chair, the Chair of Medical Humanities, and the Royal Institute for Research on the History of Morocco, among other scientific and cultural initiatives that reflect the institution’s diverse areas of interest.

Among these initiatives, the Chair of African Literatures and Arts has gained special attention. Its first guest was the journalist and writer Philomé Robert, who engaged in a discussion on African literature, culture, and the role of creativity in promoting mutual understanding among peoples.

These activities once again affirm the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco’s position as a leading space for intellectual and cultural dialogue and as a platform that brings together researchers, writers, and creative minds from different continents, contributing to the promotion of openness, diversity, and intercultural knowledge exchange.
