New Documentary Celebrates the Life and Legacy of Kyrgyz Poet Turar Kojomberdiev

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan — A new documentary film, I Am the Son of the Mountains (Men Toolordun Uulumun), has been released in tribute to the life, творчество, and enduring literary legacy of the distinguished Kyrgyz poet Turar Kojomberdiev, one of the most celebrated voices of modern Kyrgyz poetry.
Produced at the initiative of the Writers’ Union of the Kyrgyz Republic, the documentary offers an in-depth exploration of Kojomberdiev’s life journey, creative achievements, literary philosophy, and invaluable contribution to the development of Kyrgyz literature. Through archival materials, literary reflections, and cultural commentary, the film presents a vivid portrait of a poet whose work remains deeply connected to the spirit of the Kyrgyz mountains, the traditions of his people, and the universal human experience.
The documentary highlights the poet’s artistic evolution and examines the themes that defined his poetry, including identity, homeland, nature, memory, and the enduring relationship between humanity and the natural world. It also sheds light on his influence on subsequent generations of writers and his lasting place in the cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.
The film is directed by Asel Esengul Kyzy, whose sensitive and thoughtful approach brings new dimensions to Kojomberdiev’s literary world. Cinematography is by Jakshylyk Idris Uulu, whose visual storytelling captures the grandeur of the Kyrgyz landscape that inspired much of the poet’s work.

Among those who appeared in the documentary was Kyrgyz poetess Altynai Temirova, who expressed her appreciation for the film and its creators. In a message following the premiere, she wrote:
