KEDA Welcomes President El-Sisi’s Visit to South Korea, Hailing a New Era of Strategic Partnership and Economic Cooperation

Seoul, South Korea — Korea Egypt Development Association (KEDA) has warmly welcomed and highly commended the official visit of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Republic of Korea, describing it as a historic milestone in bilateral relations and a significant step toward expanding strategic cooperation, economic development, technological innovation, and cultural exchange between the two friendly nations.

Chairman Kang Woong-sik

KEDA Chairman Kang Woong-sik, Special Professor at Seoul Science and Technology University and Distinguished Professor at Badr University in Cairo (BUC), stated:

“The visit of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Republic of Korea represents an important turning point in the longstanding friendship between our two countries. We at KEDA warmly welcome this high-level engagement and sincerely appreciate the commitment demonstrated by President El-Sisi and President Lee Jae-myung to elevating bilateral relations to a strategic partnership. This achievement opens promising horizons for cooperation that will benefit the peoples of Korea and Egypt and contribute to broader regional and international development.”

Korea Egypt Development Association (KEDA), a non-profit incorporated association established in 2016 under the supervision of Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, is dedicated to promoting friendship, economic cooperation, private-sector exchange, and public-interest activities between Korea and Egypt.

The association considers President El-Sisi’s visit a strong affirmation of the growing importance of Korean-Egyptian relations and an opportunity to translate political understanding into practical initiatives, sustainable investments, and stronger connections between businesses, institutions, academics, and communities.

Strategic Partnership: A New Chapter in Bilateral Relations

During his meeting with President Lee Jae-myung at the Korean presidential residence in Seoul, President El-Sisi participated in official welcoming ceremonies before holding bilateral talks and expanded discussions with the two countries’ delegations. The meetings culminated in the announcement of an upgrade in bilateral relations to the level of a strategic partnership.

The two presidents also witnessed the signing of agreements and memoranda of understanding, bringing the total number of agreements and memoranda signed during the visit to twelve. A joint press conference followed, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing cooperation across political, economic, industrial, and developmental fields.

Chairman Kang emphasized that this development reflects the natural evolution of relations built on mutual respect, shared interests, and decades of successful engagement.

“Korea and Egypt possess complementary strengths and considerable opportunities for cooperation. Korea’s internationally recognized achievements in industrialization, advanced manufacturing, electronics, infrastructure, and technology can work hand in hand with Egypt’s strategic geographical position, expanding industrial base, skilled workforce, and access to regional markets,” he noted.

Unlocking Opportunities in Industry, Technology, and Investment

KEDA particularly welcomes the two leaders’ emphasis on expanding cooperation in advanced industries, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, infrastructure, and technological innovation.

President El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s admiration for Korea’s remarkable development experience and its transformation into a global industrial and technological powerhouse. He also highlighted Egypt’s interest in attracting further Korean industrial investment, particularly in automotive manufacturing, electronics, petrochemicals, and renewable energy, while strengthening Egyptian exports to the Korean market.

KEDA believes that these priorities offer substantial opportunities for Korean companies seeking to expand their international partnerships and for Egyptian enterprises seeking access to advanced technologies, industrial expertise, and new export markets.

The association stands ready to contribute to this process by encouraging private-sector dialogue, facilitating institutional connections, supporting business exchanges, and promoting initiatives that create lasting economic value for both countries.

Peace, Stability, and Shared International Responsibilities

KEDA also welcomes the emphasis placed by both presidents on peace, regional stability, and international cooperation amid mounting geopolitical challenges.

Their discussions addressed developments in the Middle East and the Korean Peninsula, reflecting the importance of dialogue, de-escalation, and respect for international law. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s positions on regional security, the protection of maritime navigation, the Nile’s vital importance to Egypt, and the need for a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian question based on international legitimacy and the two-state solution.

KEDA views constructive dialogue between Korea and Egypt as an important contribution to mutual understanding between Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, particularly at a time when international cooperation is essential to addressing shared challenges.

Building Bridges Between Two Nations

Beyond governmental relations, KEDA believes that the success of the strategic partnership will depend on stronger connections between people, educational institutions, researchers, entrepreneurs, and cultural organizations.

Since its establishment in 2016, the association has pursued its mission of strengthening Korean-Egyptian friendship and encouraging cooperation across economic and public-interest sectors. The new strategic framework provides an encouraging foundation for expanding these efforts and developing initiatives with tangible benefits for both societies.

Chairman Kang concluded:

“We congratulate President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President Lee Jae-myung, and the peoples of Egypt and Korea on this important achievement. KEDA reaffirms its commitment to supporting this new chapter through friendship, dialogue, economic cooperation, and meaningful exchanges between our two nations. We look forward to seeing the strategic partnership translated into concrete projects, shared prosperity, and a stronger bridge connecting Korea and Egypt for generations to come.”

For KEDA, President El-Sisi’s visit is more than a diplomatic milestone: it is an invitation to deepen a relationship of trust and mutual benefit, transforming the longstanding friendship between Korea and Egypt into an increasingly dynamic partnership for the future.
