The XI All-Russian Folk Arts Festival-Fair “Kukmor Felt Boots” successfully took place in the Kukmor District of the Republic of Tatarstan, reaffirming its status as one of the most vibrant winter cultural events in the region. The festival was organized with the support of the Republican Grant for the Winter Season under the interregional cultural festival program “Kürshe”, which aims to strengthen cultural ties and neighborhood cooperation among Russia’s regions.
The event brought together more than 4,500 visitors, including artisans, performers, athletes, families, tourists, and representatives of cultural institutions from different parts of Russia. Despite the winter cold, the atmosphere was warm, festive, and filled with a strong sense of community and shared heritage.
At the heart of the festival was the celebrated Kukmor valenki—traditional felt boots that have become a symbol of the district’s craftsmanship and identity. Kukmor is widely known across Russia for its long-standing tradition of felt-making, an artisanal skill passed down through generations.
