A Nobel Prize laureate in Literature, Soyinka stands as a historic figure whose influence extends across generations of African literature and far beyond the continent.

CAO SHUI — CHINA
Among the confirmed laureates is the distinguished Chinese poet and writer Cao Shui, author of Opus of Eurasia, whose expansive poetic vision explores civilizations, cultures and the interconnectedness of humanity across the Eurasian continent.
President Margarita Al described the confirmation of Cao Shui’s nomination as a great honor for WOW, highlighting him as a valued friend of the organization and an important voice in contemporary world literature.

FERNANDO RENDÓN — COLOMBIA
WOW also confirmed the nomination of Fernando Rendón, the internationally recognized Colombian poet and cultural organizer associated with the legendary Medellín International Poetry Festival.
Margarita Al praised Rendón for bringing poets from around the world together in Medellín and for his enduring commitment to peace, international solidarity and what she described as a “planetary consciousness.”
His literary and cultural work embodies the belief that poetry can become a meeting place for peoples, cultures and generations. WOW regards his dedication to world peace and international literary exchange as an example of the “person of the future.”
VYACHESLAV KUPRIYANOV — RUSSIA
The 2026 WOW laureates also include Vyacheslav Kupriyanov, one of Russia’s prominent poets and literary figures, whose works have reached readers through translations into numerous languages.
Introducing Kupriyanov, Margarita Al described him as one of the great poets of Russia and the world, emphasizing the international reach of his literary work.

RUBÉN DARÍO FLORES ARSILA — COLOMBIA
The organization further confirmed the nomination of Rubén Darío Flores Arsila of Colombia, a professor, translator, writer and cultural figure whose scholarly, social and literary activities have formed a central part of his life.
Particular recognition was given to his service to the Russian language and Russian culture, including his work as director of the L. N. Tolstoy Institute.
His novel The Venetian Coin was among the works considered for the award. Margarita Al emphasized that the novel demonstrates a broad intellectual vision and a deep engagement with the histories of the world’s great civilizations.
TIMUR ZULFIKAROV — TAJIKISTAN
WOW President Margarita Al also honored the presence of another towering literary figure, Timur Kasyimovich Zulfikarov, the People’s Poet of Tajikistan, whom she introduced as one of the greatest poets of Tajikistan and the wider world.
Zulfikarov is closely associated with the literary and cultural circle surrounding the celebrated Kazakh poet Olzhas Suleimenov, himself among the figures recognized by WOW.
