Hong Kong Literature and Art Strengthens Its Global Literary Presence with an International Editorial and Advisory Network

Approved by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and organized by the Hong Kong Literature and Art Publishing House, the journal is distributed throughout mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and overseas Chinese communities worldwide.

Among the voices of world poetry featured in this issue is a selection of poems by the Egyptian poet Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, presented in Chinese translation by the renowned Chinese poet Cao Shui. This literary collaboration represents a meaningful cultural bridge between Egypt and China, allowing Chinese readers to engage with the poetic imagination of one of the Arab world’s distinguished contemporary writers. The publication of these poems highlights the magazine’s commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue and introducing diverse poetic experiences from around the globe.

The literary journal Hong Kong Literature and Art is another significant contribution to contemporary Chinese and international literary culture. The new issue highlights acclaimed Chinese novelist Mai Jia on its cover, celebrating one of the most influential literary voices in contemporary Chinese literature. Born in Fuyang, Zhejiang Province, in 1964, Mai Jia is a renowned writer, recipient of the prestigious Mao Dun Literature Prize, and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the China Writers Association.

Mai Jia’s life and career reflect an extraordinary journey between military service and literature. He entered a military academy in 1981 and later graduated from both the Radio Department of the PLA Engineering and Technology Academy and the Literature Department of the PLA Academy of Arts. Since beginning his literary career in 1986, he has published seven novels, including Decipher, The Plot, The Message, Life Is Like a Sea, and Letters from the Human World.

His novel The Plot received the 7th Mao Dun Literature Prize, while Decipher has achieved remarkable international recognition. In 2014, the novel was named one of the “Top Ten Novels of the Year” by The Economist. It won the CALA Best Book Award in 2015, and in 2017, The Daily Telegraph selected it as one of the “20 Best Spy Novels of All Time.” To date, Mai Jia’s works have been translated into more than thirty languages, underscoring his global literary influence.

Bearing the ISSN 2618-0839, Hong Kong Literature and Art continues to establish itself as an important platform for purely literary expression, bringing together writers, readers, and scholars across linguistic and cultural boundaries. The publication is licensed for distribution in mainland China and is available in both mainland China and the Hong Kong and Macau markets.
