Madam Sabena: THE VOICE OF MOTHERS

A Call to Humanity There are moments when, in the face of what is happening in our world, we need to remember something both simple and fundamental: before anything else, we are human. Humanity has no color. It has no nationality and no borders. It is not defined by wealth, religion, language, or the continent on which we were born. We share the same human nature. We love. We suffer. We hope. We fear. We grieve for those we lose, and we dream of a better future for our children. That is why I dedicate these reflections to mothers everywhere. A mother’s voice does not belong to one country, one culture, or one side. It is a voice that knows the value of human life. Choosing the Side of Humanity Today, we are surrounded by images of human suffering. Tragedy reaches us every hour, from every part of the world. And perhaps one of the greatest dangers is that we begin to grow accustomed to it. But we must never become accustomed to another person’s pain. When a child suffers, a mother does not first ask about that child’s nationality, religion, or politics. She sees a child. When someone loses a home, a family, or hope itself, before we see a label, we must see a human being. I am not calling upon anyone to condemn one side or defend another. I am asking us to choose the side of humanity. I do not have the power to stop wars. I have only my voice. But I believe that one voice, joined by thousands and eventually millions of others, can awaken the human conscience. The Voice of Women I appeal to women around the world — to mothers, public figures, First Ladies, and every woman who cares about the world our children will inherit. Speak for peace. Speak to your sons and daughters, your husbands and fathers. Speak to political leaders, business leaders, religious leaders, academics, and institutions. Not to accuse. Not to divide. But to remind them that behind every decision are human lives. Every leader was once a child. Every person in a position of power has a family, memories, fears, hopes, and people they love. Behind the office and the title, there is still a human being. Perhaps one of the greatest powers of women is our ability to speak to that human being. Dignity Requires Opportunity Recently, I saw a pregnant woman collecting plastic scraps with a small child beside her. She told me that her husband had left and that she had not eaten for two days. We helped her with what she needed immediately. But one question stayed with me: What happens tomorrow?…
